I am so close to 5ing this. fairly excited, I have given two or three 5s in the whole 2010 decade and 2020 and 2021 gave me two seminal, year defining, discs back to back
|
| |
i hadn't given a 5 since 2017 and this year i have two lmao

I was quite content with Dvne's album being my AOTY and I almost feel bad for having to relegate it to second place behind an instant 5

I am jamming DVNE right now on some fat speakers, headbanging my way through making this a 5.
I would also buy the shit out of special vinyl edition of this, it truly deserves something as grandiose as the ocean would do. man this disc is special.

At a dance is the only song I rly connect with, and even then his vocals are so boring

don´t spoil the good vibes folks
I don´t think it´s fair to judge this on the basis of the tonality of the dude´s voice, considering how much there is in these 97 minutes in terms of meaning, lyricism, intertwined stories, smart musical composition, that´s my two cents.

i think that's my overall biggest "complaint" now. his voice sounds so comfortable/safe most of the time. he's really good and having a bunch of group vox to spice things up is perfect. more moments like the "scream" in a boy called june pt1 wouldve helped a lot
that being said, very close to 4.5ing this

97 virgin minutes cosmic layers of lyricism many rhythms vs. one grating chad vocal style RIP
his vox is just part of the issue though - the composition (mainly metrical) is smart on a micro level, but v homogeneous across the whole album. if you're gonna sing that way over every song, at least take them to slightly different ballparks once in a while

i love the vox, particularly because of how earnest they are. that more than covers the relative lack of variety/technicality in my book
that said GreyShadow is right, would love a few more gang vocal moments or, dare, I say, a guest vocal on parts VII-XII, though that runs the risk of Razia's Shadow territory
