What's pretty interesting about Steely Dan's catalogue is just how heated the debate is on what their best or worst album is, especially regarding their classic '72-'80 run. Everybody seems to have a different ranking, but I think that's the mark of a great band... just too many good albums to choose from
Aja's been my favorite for quite a while now, but every other placement in my album ranking has shuffled around at some point or another. For now, I think I'll have to go with:
1. Aja
2. Katy Lied
3. The Royal Scam
4. Pretzel Logic
5. Countdown to Ecstasy
6. Can't Buy a Thrill
7. Gaucho
8. Two Against Nature
9. Everything Must Go

Aja is objectively great but I feel like it's one of their more homogenous-sounding records. You honestly can't go wrong with SD tho

Glad to see that someone else thinks Katy Lied is underappreciated. The only song I never quite gravitated to on that album is Chain Lightning, but everything else is so damn good

Two Against Nature is way better than people give it credit for but it is for hardcore Dan fans. Literally beach daiquiri music.
