Hello fellow AFI enthusiasts in 2021 AD. As someone who had physical copies of their early albums like Answer That, A Fire Inside EP, Very Proud and someone who loved their old style, I feel like the fire is still inside them. The burning is no longer raging but controlled and directed. We watched a caveman grow up and learn to control fire and create beauty with it instead of burning everything. Was kind of leaning toward this perspective but it solidified when they released I Hope You Suffer.

Tied To A Tree is the complete antithesis of a closer to what Wind was. Holy shit.

They explored that bluesy sound once, and never again haha. I love Wind.

Storm bringing some much needed hype to this thread. Band still slaps.

had a realization that I think Death of the Party's subtlety would have been better appreciated if that wasn't how Davey sounded throughout the album. it kinda works for this one

I feel this band is at its best when it has equal amounts edge and hooks, thats why things dont stick the landing from crash love onwards, Burials was too moody, Blood is too throwbacky and this is too hook-y, Missing Man ep being the one big exception to this trend.

Same for me but for Burials, that album is such a artistic flex.

Crash Love ain't bad, but it was the album that started their slide out of stardom and closer to mediocrity. Burials was good but unmemorable, Blood alternated between shockingly great and shockingly boring. This is pretty much just cruise control AFI and there's nothing wrong with that but it ain't getting a 4+ from me. I thought about 3.5'ing this but it's not quite there for me.

Burials was great imo

Blood was uneven

CL was uninspired. The choruses on that thing are absolute trash

None of those are sing the sorrow fs
