This doesn't sound like ION at all tho, not even mixing/production wise so the comparison are strange. ION was a one-off record for the band in a way, unique in their discog

Troof, I think this and that both are unique in comparison to their older stuff. I just don't understand liking one and not the other, differences aside. There's still a fundamental kick to all their shit that's pretty universal

Honestly surprised this didn't make my end of year list - was blown away by it on release. Need to revisit. It's a pretty relentless undertaking, even for a Portal record.
Hagbulbia was an odd move, but curious to see how they unfold their ideas next - hopefully it's a sign of curious experimentation and not one of running out of steam...

it blows my mind that the accompanying record they put out with this has a lower rating its just as good if not better imo. Super dark atmosphere on that record. Check it out. The 'Hagbulbia' album.
