This is so much better than AoaDC.. that album had only one great song - Smartfriend and some so-so tracks but half of that album is just boring and without any interesting riffs..

Witness is basically from start to end a really strong album, without a single bad or boring song

I know "opinion, opinion" but I really can't understand how a progmetal fan likes their previous album more than this

Their heavier side is always more interesting than their progpop that they played on their last album.. even though Inmazes is still so far their best album

And Napalm has a chorus that really reminds me of Fair to Midland, which is always a great thing

i'm honestly baffled by this take but it's a good review. i do feel you spend a little too much time talking about the album that preceded it - but that's more of a pet peeve of mine when it comes to reviews than objective feedback.



i feel there's a lot of subtlety behind the more direct approach this album has - it's a great balance. all the songs that didn't immediately hit me have clicked. as much as i miss a track like ruby pool, i'm happy with it being an anomaly in their discography and this album offering a different atmosphere and feel. i think the similarities from this to 'inmazes' are overstated - there's far more focus on direct song structures, fluidity, harmonies and creating an atmosphere rather than simply kicking you in the face.

i personally wouldn't call it mainstream due to how layered it is musically, but i can see how the vocals could be radio friendly

Good review. I definitely agree that the singles are probably the best tracks on here, but I don't think everything else is so much worse that it knocks the score down much.

Not as good as the last one, but still feeling like a 3.8 on this.

I always found their lighter side much more captivating when it worked in tandem with their heavier tendencies. I may enjoy prog metal, but that doesn't preclude me from enjoying an experience that is more atmospheric provided it is executed well. In that regard, Applause is superb.



w/r/t whether or not this has atmosphere; I can't feel it, not like I could feel it on Applause. The commitment doesn't seem the same to me.
