'Ye fair play. Was more intended as a reference to the wave of UK press coverage that made that very claim (that rock was dead and royal blood fixed it with their s/t)'
thats entirely fair and true. this band was indeed lauded by the uk press, i just couldnt tell if you were joining it with that praise or just referencing it. my bad
and yes park the uk music press is by and large staffed with brain dead fuckwits who will lavish heaps of praise on any rock revivalism act (be it Royal Blood style or Greta Van Fleet), every moody overly serious try hard london post-punk band and any middle-class britschool pipeline soulless turd wranglers like the 1975 and Pale Waves
here is a good article just from last year from some wanker genuinely attempting to defend the hordes of identikit indie wave 2000s bands from an absolutist strawman he has made up https://www.nme.com/features/landfill-indie-snobbery-2741199

posting that article just as the worst example of what uk music publications have to offer

that sounds like it could have been written by half this site's userbase
"you just hate fun!!!"

Nw mort, the intent behind it was ambiguous for sure
"and yes park the uk music press is by and large staffed with brain dead fuckwits who will lavish heaps of praise on any rock revivalism act" lol rip but also true (sadly)
|
| |
>brain dead fuckwits who will lavish heaps of praise on any rock revivalism act
same as metalbro logic then, except theyre actual journalists somehow... lol
|

i just hate how bad his argument is. hes arguing against some imaginary enemy who seems to claim that Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys and The Automatic were all indistinguishable (who claims this?!?) while also lauding loads of shit indie bands in the same breath with the insinuation that if you disagree youre a snob
its not our fault that he fails to see that the music of his youth was indeed a bit shit and that whole scene wasnt as perfect as he imagines.

| |
i love you so much mort
|
| |
lol yeh metal journalism is also heinously bad
its a good thing that its more viable now than in the past for music journalists to be independent because working for a publication seems like a surefire way to have to end up bumlicking bands you dont really care for

definitely agree in theory, but in practice ive seen a lot of blogs and whatnot that just regurgitate the popular consensus on basically everything they cover... and i can certainly think of practical reasons why, unfortunately

Can think of few "sad piano closers on rock albums" that are less convincing than this one
That said this has definite bops, esp "Typhoons" and " Limbo"

The album is not bad. It is still a rock album. The problem here is that the drums are programmed and not human. Typhoon would be a banger if not by its uninspired drums. For me is like Ben is just a drummer to be there, not to give his creative juices for the duo. Making Royal Blood a one man band as many others before...
