Good review dude. The genre is in a pretty dire position, and I've grown as weary of DGD as they seem of their own formula. I was then pretty pleasantly surprised to fall head over heels for this record, which I was not expecting to amuse me at all.
It's no secret Donovan is a huge TMV fan, but I was really surprised to hear some moments on a couple tracks here that quite specifically recall the melodies of a Mars Volta song. And those might be my favorite bits. I don't think these guys will, or intent do, change their direction anytime soon, but I wouldn't be upset if they wandered into those slightly more esoteric waters.
