Noice
God Average Death is still the best damn song that got released this year.

I just hope they play venues with some better sound quality.
I’m fine with catching shows at dives but they sounded fucking terrible at the shitty little venue they played near me
Half the time I couldn’t even tell what song they were playing

I would be happy just to be able to see them live ;-;

no joke man I literally couldn’t understand most of what was going on.
The venue I caught them at usually has pretty good sound but maybe all that shit was just too much for them to handle.

Their intent is to overwhelm on the records so I wouldn't be surprised if they set out to do the same thing with their live shows lol

I think this pisses me off cos I can hear there's an absolutely bollock-busting time in here if I can look over all the noise. It ain't like when you listen to, for example, Burzum where the production is ass but you know you're not really missing much anyway so you kinda sink in and vibe. There's a lot to love here I'm sure. This might improve if I keep listening to it but right now that sounds like such a chore.
To further disagree with some things being said in here the closer is the best track and Big Shell absolutely rips too where they really, really lean into the messy aggression of it all. Personally, this album with Untitled's production and it might be AOTY for me but for me all the noise kinda defangs it for the most part.

the noise is one of the reasons why this album is so amazing

@Arch: I'm guessing you're not a fan of Only Love either due to the same stylistic decisions? The production on that one is probably even noisier and more chaotic. I think it's their best but to each his own if it's not your thing. The closer is probably my least favorite track here so it's interesting you singled it out as your favorite.

i agree with xing, closer is the weakest here and for me at least was a big letdown
band is my fav thing in hardcore at the moment

On Jupiter was so ethereal that I really thought they would close out this one on a similar note. Can't wait to hear their rendition of On Jupiter for Live at the Masonic

An Iteration, A Life So Wonderful and Bad Selection are some of my favourite songs of the year, I’m sure people hate this take but if they can focus on their more hooky tracks like those they could blow up

yeah on Jupiter set such a high bar only for this closer to be the weakest track on the album.
Plus it had Mark fucking Lanegan contributing to it and they do literally nothing with it.
Album is still a hard five

dude I would be fine with them doing a literal pop album. I’m completely convinced the band can do no wrong.

I would fucking LOVE a full album of poppy sorta post punk songs from these guys. They write really fantastic hooks

Album Rating: 4.5
yeah my fav thing about this band is their ability to seamlessly combine catchy hooks with pretty aggressive hardcore
a more subdued post-punk lp that focused more on the hooks would definitely be interesting. the beginning of Dead Actress for example has a pretty cool vibe
