And you guys realize when you download from a lot of music services, they intentionally make the kbps low so that it takes up less space on your device so that you have more memory available to buy more. Torrent all your music in FLAC and if you like the album buy it, or buy merch from the artist.

So Long, Mother Earth is such a great track. Feel like this album is missing one more massive song like that.

One of the most consistent bands in my lifetime are back with what might be their best album. I love the more subtle math elements to some of the riffs, I love the cryptic lyrics as always, the space themes, and Pete and Sam prove that they only need each other to keep making quality songs this far into their career.

I don't know why people are complaining about the production and the mix. It fuckin' kicks on regular headphones and quality car speakers. It's not intended to be listened to on YouTube with your iPhone speaker. Time will tell if they finally get over 3.9 lol But I believe it has the potential to rate as one of their best. My only criticism is that the final track doesn't really add much. I feel like the interludes could've been just added to the end of the prior track instead of it's own track. Thats it, it gets a 5 from me. Who else is still making compelling rock music in 2020?

They could have a written an old sci-fi novel instead with that cover art.

Other than the guitar is sometimes way too loud on the mix (think the beginning of "Self Destructor") it actually works on songs like "Peach" and "Test Test...Enough". But yeah I agree is a very well produced album and it sounds exactly the same as The North Corridor sound wise.

Feel like Piistol Star should be getting more love. That song grooves hard.

I want to like this, but I feel like the mix is just horrendously flat.

Note: I listened with my good headphones and even tried it in my car earlier (great speakers).

Got about 3/4 of the way through, but had to stop. The singer ruins it for me. Technically, he's very good, but he's still doing his best young Maynard impression. Music is tight from everything I heard, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. Would probably rate a 3.5 if I got to the end.

What? I think Pete's vocals is one of the best things from this. I do wish he brought back that low guttural scream from the earlier records, though.

I see what you mean on the loud guitar at times. But overall I think the drums and guitar really mesh together beautifully especially on Mars Simula, it just sounds so bad ass. Also even without Dean I think the Bass has the presence to stand out without overdoing it.

Idk what you guys use for speakers but on my Sony extra bass earbuds it's so smooth and dynamic. My car has infinity speakers with good bass as well. I guess everyones ears interpret it differently. To me ever since Vena Sera their mixes are always pretty solid except for Hats Off to the Bull, which to me is their flattest one.

Come to think of it Chevelle are very similar to Deftones in that both bands have transcended their peers by a long shot. Both are still grinding with no signs of regression. This and Ohms are easily 2 of my favorite releases in the past 5 years or so.

Pete’s vocals definitely take an interesting turn. I think this album is very good, better than the last two. I still think TToT and Sci Fi crimes are their best releases but it’s pretty impressive that this band is still putting out great shit after these years.

I didn't say he had bad vocals or anything. I just hear way too many Maynard impressions in what he does, and he's been doing it since The Red. That was a big reason a lot of my friends were into this band back then.

Free Lossless Audio Codec. The file size will be way bigger, but if ripped properly it's basically the best audio quality you can get.

So after spending some more time with this album I think my primary gripes about sound quality and mix primarily relate to So Long, Mother Earth and Self Destructor. I don't know where to find the FLAC files for this record but these songs sound bad across all streaming platforms. Weird.

There's a fair amount of Loudness Wars-style clipping which is insane to me because it's 2021 and I figured we'd be done with those problems by now.

Is streaming the same quality as the downloaded mp3's? I bought mine from iTunes and they're at 256 kbps. Sound great. I would think logically that streaming might be lesser quality but I'm no audio expert.
