It's a decent little ballad. I like the lyrics.

On first spin, it’s pretty enjoyable yet ultimately forgettable. Probably a 3 from me. It’s definitely better than Concrete and Gold, but Sonic Highways is underrated imo.

I really like it. A bit jarring indeed the way it progresses, but I feel it successfully updates the Foo Fighters with more modern sounds and grooves.

Is this really only their tenth album? It feels like they have twice as many.

Most of these songs really do not hold up on a second listen, there's like one riff in each song that I think sounds good and the rest is just bleeah
Chasing Birds is just a worse version of Happy Ever After, Holding Poison has a good verse riff but it's kinda too dumb and simple for me, same goes for Making A Fire which is a bit better
Medicine to Midnight is actually pretty good but Dave's vocals definitely drag it down, and Love Dies Young is by far the best song here and the only one that sounds like Wasting Light-era Foo

A very solid contender for the worst album they've dropped so far. Disappointingly flat, one-note and confused.

Not sure whether this is worse than SH, Echoes, or ObO just yet, but it's down there, yeah

Oh my god cloudspotter is so bad, what on earth were they thinking

Man, this band is the great love of my teen years, what the hell has time done to them??? Dave, I will always love you but this is a pile of boring a** average, cringy, pop-radio rock.
Man, I miss the days when they actually had banger riffs in their tracks. I really wonder who murdered their old selves.

Damn Love Dies Young just gets better and better like even if you hate everything they've done past Wasting Light I feel like you should still check out that one song

giving it a 3 out if respect that its the Foo, but wow their awful hipster pop producer has nearly taken out all their intensity of these past 2 newest albums... aside from love dies young, this album is so damn average
Sonic highways is the last great album

I'm kinda taken aback by a lot of the negative reception to this, really enjoyed this one after really not liking their last two.

People are always eager to turn on a normie radio-rock band I guess
That said... this is really blah, opener and closer are the main things lifting it above a 2 for me

They're the same band they've always been since the first album. It's just that when you've been putting out albums in the same exact style and songwriting approach for 25 years running, with the only real change being adding a sixth member to do "electronics" to stay with the times, you eventually run out of ideas. Like there's gotta be like 150 something songs in the Foo catalog at this point... it's the law of diminishing returns in full effect.

I'm extremely unimpressed with this record, and like it less with repeat listens. I don't care to hear any of these songs live, which is probably the clearest indicator of a rock album being shite. So many of the songs feel like they exhaust their best ideas within the first ~30 seconds and plod on for the rest of their runtimes. "Waiting on a War" has so little of note going on that it barely even qualifies as a song, and the crescendo at the end feels so tacked on and forced.
This band has barely done anything of note after their first two albums. Unremarkable almost across the board, with Wasting Light being noteworthy only because it is the best boring album of all time.

I liked the first couple of songs plus the title track but it's mostly 9 songs of filler.
