I mean, I dont care about the commercialism per se, but it's just that it's too squeeky clean without it being over produced to the point where it's interesting.

Like it's not autotune enough to be T-pain, but the singing is still soulless. The instrumentals are also pretty weak and so inoffensive even though it gets so close to being interesting.

I dunno, it truly is the sound of aliens trying to recreate pop music. Think the uncanny valley comparison is apt

as for k-pop i feel like a lot of the viewpoint on that is idol culture stuff and i think that's very specific as well. i'm sure there is lots of korean bedroom pop music out there that is made for the joy of it that has plenty of good stuff. just one microsphere back.

@park so i've heard. i generalize bc i don't want to want to go into the stuff i've found but i find it so genuinely disgusting and destructive what those industry moguls get into. and how the media and basically everyone buys into it because money and if you don't like it or object you're an obnoxious contrarian and the western industry is just as bad, dude!

Literally most music in any and every genre is bad.

Including prog.

C'mon man, you must have come across at least hundreds of shitty 'epic' prog albums that are just flaccid. And if you haven't, you definitely aren't looking hard enough!

I'm sorta looking forward to this. More than fine with him abandoning prog, his last two were much more enjoyable than anything else post Fear of a Blank Planet imo.

there is a massive abundance of neo-prog and jazz-fusion/wankery stuff that gets so much attention but is so derivative or lacking in personality. i used to be kinda into it but it's falling off of me pretty hard

i have a musician friend who's all over that brand of prog and sends stuff to me pretty often and i gotta be like "hey that's pretty cool" bc i dont wanna be that guy

Given that we live in a time when just about any motherfucker with a grain of privledge can record and release some sort of music even if its shitty ambient or diy punk with 3 chords yeah id say the vast majority of music out there is mediocre or average and you have to do a lot more digging to find the good stuff

But that also means there is a lot more good stuff too. Just harder to find.

see sledd, you're mostly on the same page as us

next level of based is realising that even some old "classics" like emerson lake and palmer are not that good :^)
