"a complication of the best of the rest"
I don't think this is necessarily more complicated than the originals :-)

The lead singer reconciled with his accuser, who never really wanted to publicly accuse him anyway.

I like the band's stuff up to Skylight, but they seem to have lost the spark on Marigold and this.

not sure there are a million singers with similar voices. I feel like he is pretty damn unique.

He has a remarkable voice regardless of whether or not it’s unique.

I'm an atypical Pinegrove fan, I think, in that my favorite album is far and away Marigold. So I'm definitely predisposed to this, but it also records some earlier tunes in a way that allows me to appreciate them more.

i've never liked this band much aside from the squares one so this wasn't for me

The me of four or five years ago would be indignantly stanning Marigold as their best, most mature (I think chan notes this is his original review, but it's Pinegrove's first where the band as a whole does some heavy lifting) and most accessible album, and that what makes this a success is its ability to adjust earlier songs to that Marigold template. But I am too aware now of how futile it is to argue against people's personal tastes *shrug*

I'm a big fan of the version of Skylight presented here, that song was never one of my favorites but it's really elevated now above the Skylight album version

Gotta be honest, the only renditions that really standout as "better than the orignals" on here for me are all the Pre-Cardinal tracks. For example On Jet Lag sounds milessss better than their previously recorded version.

The run from Thanksgiving to The Metronome is my fav for sure. Peeling off the Bark has never sounded so good, plus don’t get me started on the ‘stay composed’ in the metronome UGH. Film is cute too. God I love this band

I’m watching it now and couldn’t care less about the film parts but it’s great to see the performances live. Especially Evan and Half Waif singing together
