To me it seems like they started the descending side of their parabola. Berdreyminn was already less inspired than their iconic previous four albums, in this one their formula just feels worn-out, plus the singer is getting worse album after album. There are some atmospheric moments here and there though, and the raw sound suits them really well. All in all a decent effort.

So Tryggvason has a crust punk band called BASTARÐUR and here's a taste:
Confusing video to say the least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqt0N9leIvI&ab_channel=SeasonofMist
But the track bangs.

I love the first two tracks of this and I generally really enjoy the whole thing, but it does decline in quality slightly throughout the runtime (albeit does finish strong with the final pair of tracks). Still a solid 4 mind, but Akkeri & Drysill had this on for a possible 4.5.
I can appreciate that the vocals on this might be an acquired taste, but I really love the raw emotion they convey.
Simon - how do you feel about this now that it's nearly a year on from the review?

I still love it. It hasn't elevated itself to the level of Berdreyminn, which was amazing initially but really grew on me more and more over the years. This one hasn't lost its potency, but it hasn't expanded in the same way either.
In fact, rereading the review on it, my thoughts are still exactly the same. haha I actually think Sput consensus is a little harsh on this one, and I don't get the hate on the vox either.

In the first place.
A lot of good things happen on this Lp:
An amazing production that everything sounds as it should: The guitars sound as they should, with the distortions strongly giving the feeling of classic rock n roll and Metal, the bass sounds heavy and clear and the drums are tuned as they should be. Keyboards and extra orchestrations all tied together superbly.
The compositions of the tracks are tight and varied in color, from atmospheric build ups and blues aesthetics to heavy tunes and black metal blast beats (Soooooo Coooollll🤘🤘🤘)
Everything is going great..until the voice comes in..
It's like they forgot to record it and mix it with the rest of the instruments, and did it all at the last minute.
Both the mixing of the vocals and the way they were performed (toooo much drama, that Trygg often sounds out of tune) for this record, seem to be...wrong

This band is on a downward spiral for me. Also, live, they used to be a great atmospheric experience. In my eyes, the latest gigs were super weak, though, especially the gig at Roadburn where they slaughtered Svatir Sandar.

I feel like you can really enjoy this record, but you really need to be in the right spot for it. At the moment I find it a bit too boring, and maybe the vocals are a bit off-putting at times

Production is quite nice here too, but again, you need to be in the mood. It's very laid back and natural, which can be nice at times but also way less direct
