From the reviews I've seen, the last two DT albums have been praised, at least Atoma. Anyway, I have no problem at all with vocals, I can stand most brutal vocalists.
Fates has been admittedly the most consistent prog metal forefather band.

Yeah I like the "alternative" feel to a few of the tones and songs. Gives it a different edge

@Titan - Glad to be on board! One of the reasons I decided to finally participate is I'd like to eventually contribute reviews defending 2 criminally underrated Fates albums: Inside Out and FWX. Hopefully that'll bring a bit of temporary life to discussion here.
As far as harsh vocalists go, DT's Mikael Stanne is one of the most pleasant I find, even my non-metal sister likes his vocals. And I second listening to Fiction, IMO their best album by far.

I forget which one it was, but one of these songs has a borderline grungy sounding intro/main riff in it

Maybe 'alt rock' wasn't the best term (even though that can mean anything lol), but there is definitely some art rock edge to this (Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, maybe some Radiohead etc)

Yooooooooooooo
after numerous listens I was ready to give this a score, I consider it to be around a 4.3 and Theories a 4.2
This is a great record and is better than DT's new offering
Sorry Willie.

I gave DT's discog a good listen these last few weeks and honestly, Damage Done is their best IMO. Character and Fiction are amazing records, but Damage Done is a masterpiece.
New record is ok, their best since Fiction, but that isn't saying much is it?

I just brought this to a 3.8 average. Let's hope Sinternet doesn't come to ruin the party and 1's this.

@Omair
I listened to the whole album again, just to find the song I was looking for! I was thinking of Begin Again. It even does the classic play the chord progression clean first, then again with distortion
Unless that is the bass on the intro and verse, but I am pretty sure it is a clean guitar. Maybe it's both, I dunno. My speakers with a sub woofer broke so I am currently using the shitty usb ones that originally came with the computer until I get another decent set

Titan is such a prog dad lol, “demon vocals”. I like the new DT a lot but I get people finding it a bit underwhelming.
Anyway this album is great too, the three long tracks are my clear favorites

I grew up with my dad playing Kansas and Rush so I know one when I see one! I played him a couple tracks from this the other day and he was into it

I've been trying for the better part of a decade to understand what people see in Damage Done and Character (everything from The Gallery to Haven I find better). Tried again tonight and while Character finally is starting to click, Damage Done to me remains a solid album but nothing more. Hours Passed in Exile is absolutely awesome though.
Anyways, about Fates and this album, maybe it's just me but I find a couple songs a little reminiscent of Todd La Torre-fronted Queensryche here, particularly The Way Home.
