Album Rating: 3.5
this is relaxing though

Yeah those final 5 minutes are a big emotional payoff if you see the whole thing through.
That's a weak take, Storm

i really love all the individual album covers for this except for stage 6 / this
don't know why he recycled the weak link for the comp
|
| |
I think it's meant to show a weathered blank canvas, kind of like the protagonist at this point, devoid of memories. I agree though that it's the weakest piece. Feel like he could have done something like a sound exposure shot that's all staticky and it would have been a cool representation. Also agreed that there should be a different cover for the compilation collection.

He should just shell out for a Giorgio Morandi next time. Has this guy ever gotten in trouble for his samples? Or are they all public domain. Wish I knew more about that stuff
|
| |
i like the idea of that conceptually. It looks like the inside of a decaying / rusted cabinet door or something being used as a canvas. It looks like it has hinges.
But yeah the other covers are immaculate, especially 2,4,5

"He should just shell out for a Giorgio Morandi next time. Has this guy ever gotten in trouble for his samples? Or are they all public domain. "
They are likely all old enough to be public domain
|
| |
They must be public domain, or antiquated to the point where nobody gives a shit haha. If he has gotten in trouble I haven't seen anything about it
|
| |
Yah yah I figured
Prob more critics who will wonder if the art is Really His (less so with this stuff than with empty bliss et al.) than people trying to sue him hahah
|
| |
The cover for 5 is just wild. I stare at it sometimes and see things I never noticed before. Definitely a mindfuck. Same with 2 but to a lesser extent. I suppose 4 is prob the most incongruent when placed against the others (not including 6) but it's still rly friggin cool
|
| |
actually i'm just looking up public domain laws for music now and apparently in 2018 trump massively extended the period to up to 120 years
in Canada it is 70 years but used to be 50 and i thought in the states it was even shorter than Canada
|
| |
The Donald done did it again
|
| |
I'm sure some people are really happy about that but as a sample based music fan and sometimes producer i personally feel i'm entitled to fuck up anyones music i want no matter how old they are
|
| |
can't tell me what to do *grumble sulk*
|

Oh wait I’m an idiot LOL I thought he did the opposite when I first read your post. Dammit that would have been such good trolling-the-libs material (I know, I know, I’m The Libs)
|
| |
is music not going into public domain for a long ass time supposed to be a liberal thing?
|
| |
Public domain for music being over 40 years is one of the most harmful things to the music ecosystem as it currently exists and I will absolutely die on that hill
|
| |
Hella agree
|
| |
Who knows, the libs are just the worst =[
|
| |
Nah it’s just the friends of mine who hate trump (nearly all of them) and do music things would def be a bit existentially confused if Trump was the one who made it legal to sample shit that came out much more recently
Alas, that was a misreading and it’s the opposite
