He critizices the lyrics for being childish in the sense that the singer mentions losing family members and they are dead to him forever due to political diferences in the same way he would mention or previously mentioned in past songs the death of a family member due to cancer.

so touche's singer is saying that having family members who don't share your political views is not like having family members die from cancer?
kind of goes without saying.
edit: nvm, you were referring to the user, i was referring to what he was referring to

Here are the lyrics:
"I’ve lost more family members
Not to cancer but the GOP
What’s the difference, I’m not for certain
They all end up dead to me"

i doubt that play on words means he thinks those two scenario's are actually equivocal, seems like a stretch

It's still stupid.

Disowning family members for not sharing your political opinions is a futile, infantile gesture for sure, unless their ~political views~ involve being racist or homophobic or some such other hateful shit

"Family who don't agree with my political opinions are on equal ground with family dying from cancer"
It's something straight out of a 15 year old's notebook."
which 15 year old is this stuck up in politics? honestly this sort of sentiment resonates more with some adults
also you kind of strike me as one of those people who would rather have Jeremy still being miserable af so he can pump out more of those morose one liners

Which, to be fair, are pretty much the only political views I’ve seen people disowning family over.
“Oh yeah, my Mom thinks the percentage allotment of tolls collected on I-90 was enough to cover the bridge reconstruction project on an effective time scale.”
“Jesus.”
“Had to cut her out, Y’know?”
“Not like she left you any choice.”

Agree, sadly and unfortunately

@porcupine lol
But also my friends little brother and his girlfriend are currently boycotting their parents, not for not sharing their political views (they are aligned in that), but for the audacity to merely have friends whose political views dont align with theirs
|

Not necessarily true porcupine. Lots of people are so crazy about that stuff that they equate voting a certain side with being radical or extremist. It's absolute bonkers.
US politics are a war zone right now and people fall for that shit instead of telling them to fuck off. The politicians love the "us VS them" bs. Anyone on the left is a radical Marxist and anyone on the right is a nazi. It's ridiculous.

The best part of my story is that my other friend, the friend from my op's fiance, was weaponized in this boycott as she is black. They told his parents that they should be ashamed of themselves for having friends with different political views over for dinner because their soon to be daughter-in-law is black. Said daughter-in-law found out about this and her response was "fuck you, dont speak for me, your parents are fucking awesome."

Yeah lol at the idea that you can be an extremist while participating in the American electoral system.
Oh wait we have electorally supported sterilization programs in our fully operational concentration camps, never mind
@Pots fucking eww, white neo-libs just love their performative tokenism, don’t they?
