when did I say that it was hard to imagine? just said I don't get why people keep expecting anything different out of this band and AT in general, especially considering the overwhelming majority of his recent output has been headed further and further in this direction

mostly as someone who has been following AT's work for, give or take, 15 years - definitely am biased in this regard, as I wouldn't have continued to listen to things he was involved in if I hadn't liked the direction I saw his work going in. that's what makes the response to this record a bit of a head-scratcher to me though, like, sure if you've never heard anything Turner has worked on (or just the last two Isis records lol) I can get this coming out of left field and disappointing you - but if you've heard Sumac's other output or a lot of Turner's shit in general, the trend in this direction was blindingly obvious

@ Darius - the last 3 records have been moving further and further in this direction, with the Haino records in particular actually being significantly more extreme in the arty improv side of things. this is a step backwards from those as far as how relatively structured it is by comparison

It seems like every Sumac release pushes away more people, which is kinda funny to me. People who don’t like the first two wanted them to sound like Isis, and people that don’t like the recent two want them to sound more like the first two. It’s a cycle

I'd buy a bundle of Aaron Turner's gooch hair if it meant he could keep making whatever brand of music he wants
