You're probably right, and I'm impressed that you remembered my Lord Huron review well enough to use it against me ;-)

"America is an absolute epic you heathen ;-)"
it sounds straight up stupid to me while also pretty pointless, switch that shit for My Rajneesh and it improves the whole record experience a lot

The song is literally the eulogy for a nation that doubles as a confession for loss of religious faith but if it's pointless then ok. :-)

I kinda feel like Sufjan was part of this awesome mid 2000's trio, with the National and Arcade Fire. AF and the National both suck now yet Sufjan is still making awesome records (except his stuff between major releases which are just sabbaticals for him and help him maintain standards by letting him try all sorts of stuff out)

Oh in my world trouble was pretty mid and everything after that was absolutely dire. So it's a three record streak of disappointments for me

I mean, you don't get masterpiece ambitious Sufjan without weird side project Sufjan and as far as weird side-project Sufjan goes, A Beginner's Mind is pretty good.

Gilgamesh - Death Star - Goodbye To All That might just be my favourite run of three songs on any Sufjan album.
