Fuuuck what a ride. They did it again. The Cenozoic half is maybe the best iteration of mellow Ocean ever.

I prefer part1 but this is an amazing album. Need to listen this 2332 times more but I feel this is inferior.

I listened back to back and it works extremely well that way. As a whole it produces a similar effect to Precambrian, where it shifts from aggressiveness into the moodier apocalyptical finale. I have parts I and II rated equivalently right now and I'll likely go to each for different vibes.

I didn't give part 1 enough listens but there's a lot of good stuff here. Usually when I say a prog album's long songs don't feel long, it means they're so forgettable I'm not paying attention. But Jurassic | Cretaceous really does fly by because it's just so good

Listening now, but is there a song as good as Silurian on here? That's the real test

Triassic is a total banger and a half.

"...as good as Silurian"

Subjectivity being what it is...yes. Yes there are song(s) here as good as Silurian.

Jurrasic gets close, and Pleistocene has that BM bit, but I think Phanerozoic I beats this one out

Honestly feel it's a little short sighted to compare the two seeing as though they are clearly intended as two parts of a whole. Of course I fully understand the compulsion to rank. What would this website be without our dear ranks?

I mean, I get it. I wouldn't listen to this outside of it being a double album like Automata !&2, Juggernaut Alpha and Omega, etc. But I don't think it's wrong to evaluate the individual parts of a whole.

Not wrong at all. Kinda like saying you like this song best on an album over some other song. I just really enjoy both albums and it's a slight bummer that the immediate compulsion here is to pick a side. I'm admittedly swimming upstream here.

No, I get you. I'm with you that it's hard to divorce the idea of picking a song to champion above the others. Such is the way of things.

Great album is great.
