Ignoring the flat earth stuff, Stephen seems to be in a very good place. He just seems to be pretty excited about his craft and recording music so I hope that all translates well into the new album.

I'm so tired of Steph's riffs at this point. I wish they fired him instead of Sergio

At this point, i'd be surprised if they have another Diamond Eyes tier album in them. Koi was close but even that was now over 10 years ago...

They are over the hill now sadly. Now I only expect 2-3 great tracks per album

Koi > the rest of their discog, by a margin as far as I'm concerned. This is nice tho, a bit below Diamond Eyes and Gore

Haven't jammed this in ages or Deftones at all in that matter. Still slaps and Error is absolutely amazing but the first half here is so much better than the last half.

Kind of agree but the closer and Headless fucking rule, so that helps the back half. Also honestly... never really got the obsession with Koi. It's good but it's like bottom 3 for me pretty easily

Headless and Radiant City are the tracks that make the second half for me. Ohms is cool and I love that riff that starts the track but outside of that nothing about it is memorable to me. Koi is great imo. Top 4 Deftones for me. It just does the atmosphere so well.

Radiant is fun but just kind of mid-tier for me. Ohms t/t is fucking incredible, once it clicked and the body chills hit... easily one of their best songs from the past decade

Error is that track for me. That last minute is Deftones at their best.

definitely a highlight here for sure

I really should do a discography run-through for these guys. I put on a couple of tracks off this recently and was in this weird place where I felt like the energy was really strong but the riffs just weren't memorable.

yeah steph hasn’t really had many good riff since he went extended range unfortunately

is he all riffed out?

Yes but the rest of the band is talented enough to pick up the slack
Off the dome, Urantia has tasty riffs, so does Radiant City. Ohms has some good ones too. His guitarwork does a good job of moving the songs along even if it’s not usually something super memorable. I’ve never really listened to Deftones for the riffs.

this is maybe an unpopular opinion but i’ve always liked Chino’s riffs a lot better

it shouldn’t be. Steph is definitely the more skilled guitarist but chino is clearly more creative

Koi is their best album. Steph sucks. Case closed.
