never cared for any of the resident evil games but the Dead Space remake blows the original out of the water imo

Nah, Glen Schofield's vision of the original is far superior than the EA version. The whole point of the first game was the feeling of hopeless desolation and isolation in the vacuum of space, making Isaac speak in the remake kinda tosses that out the window and makes it feel less claustrophobic and thus less scary.
I could go on all day about how the original is better but a lot of it will definitely sound nitpicky, coming from a hardcore fan though they really fucked up a lot of the stuff that made 2008 Dead Space a classic. Not to say the remake isn't good and I didn't enjoy it, I certainly did but the heart, soul, and direction seemed kinda lackluster.

Watch this amazing video if you want an idea of just how much better the original is.

ya it took me about 20 seconds to read the previous page, not that hard to see how to conversation got steered this way.
And Jay I disagree big time about re4. Loved the remake and could never really get into the original.
Just copped the remakes for 2 and 3 on psn for $10 and I’m excited to go thru those

Not being a douche, I just fail to see any relation between the two.

remake for 2 rules. I hated original 4 so I skipped the remake. Remake for 3 sucks other than a few cool moments. Probably worth $10 just for 2

Damn, sucks reading those comments seeing everyone hyped and praising Glen and then you read the more recent comments and they are just pissed. Doesn't help the guy just dipped from the studio today and left a former colleague in charge. He may be a great artist but his direction really killed Calisto.
I really hate ea killed dead space and when the remake did good they're just like lol would you buy remakes of 2 and 3 as well? 😃 it's nice ds1 is more on par with the sequels mechanically now and it's graphically spectacular but the franchise has no direction for the future and I feel if they remake the sequels the same exact thing that happened the first time will happen again.
And sorry Jay, I don't buy having an unvoiced protagonist being a mark against the remake. Even after watching the vid and seeing him want to emulate Gordon from HL2 I think he failed in that aspect. Isaac does just take orders in the first game and the thing about HL2 is the NPCs are just brilliantly acted and emotive and the NPCs in dead space are kinda just there to be killed. Sometimes it's nice to hear a characters thought process and build the off the game more organically and with more agency.

What makes 3 any worse than 2 art?
And you should def at least try the demo for the RE4 remake. It completely sold me on the game. Its the first Resident Evil that I actually played all the way through.
And god damn I’m glad I didn’t buy Callisto on launch. It was hyped so hard and I very nearly dished out $90 or how ever much it was for the game plus the season pass. Bummer that the game seems so mid, because I really enjoyed the podcast episodes that were released before it came out.

3 is way worse. It's basically just a linear corridor shooter while 2 has really dynamic level design and stays true to the original for the most part. Plus almost all the Nemsis sequences are scripted lol. What a fucking joke.
I did play the RE4 demo but that's it. I hate everything about 4. I know everyone loves it.

exactly concubinary
I ain't ever paying for ds remake because EA forced the og studio to appeal to COD fanboys with ds3, shut it down and laid off everyone, blaming it on the poor developers, and then years later decided to remake the first one
honestly fuck the remake and fuck EA

Would be 3rd best Deftones album if it wasn't lyrically their worst release.
Some particular lyrics are suspiciously Incubussy:
"This is our time, we devour the days ahead
We've been possessed by these changing times
As we slip on through, we promise to meet again somewhere"
While others are very Chevellousy:
"Tell me something
Have we escaped?
Are we just lost?
The mirrors taunting us against the walls
We are running across the grid
Chasing honey and closing in"

Fair point, especially considering Isaac speaks in 2 and it's probably my favorite sequel ever made. But at the same time, that goes back to my point earlier about the first game being a different beast. Hopeless, empty, trying to find answers but becoming more lost as your comrades are slowly picked off one by one until you're the only one left. Isaac may have taken orders in the og but at least there was a sense of urgency and genuine fear. In the remake it seems like it's just another Tuesday when they crash into the Ishimura and uncover eviscerated humans overtaken by a parasitic alien entity. I just didn't feel that sense of dread and uncertainty of what was around every corner in the remake. It was too clean, too polished, and the blood effects looked like red wine lol. Not to say it was a bad remake though, I did enjoy playing it but it felt kinda neutered. I would give the original game an 11/10 and the remake a solid 6.

that I get I guess. Isaac was pretty much perfect in 2 so I guess they kinda just used that as the blueprint for the remake, which was a mistake.
I kinda agree that there’s not really any fear in anything he says. He’s totally badass in 2 and 3, but again that’s because he’s been through all this shit before. In the remake he has that same attitude which doesn’t make sense.
When I play it again I’ll have to keep that in mind. I was just kinda blindsided by how good it looked and played.
