That breakdown part on Banqiao just oozes classic cloudkicker. Turning into my favourite toon off this

music’s a creative race that exponentially gets tough to catch up with. especially since ease of access (to ripoff) is a single scroll away.

Got a bunch of good listens to this while making some long drives over Labor Day weekend and more since.
I can honestly say it's up there with his best. The mix of his Discovery and Beacons metal styles with his Fade and even Woum-like ambience comes together really well.
What they do is not art, code language, ashtabula, 94 days, off his way, and sando are all highlights. Even the filler tracks are cool. I'm about to smoke and go to bed and jam this.

Really not a fan of the drum sound. He has some cool ideas though, I think his music would really improve if he was in a band or something, or atleast use a real drummer

might not be as good as on Subsume but for a drum machine he always gets a pretty decent sound imo.

As a drummer I can say I've always enjoyed his programming, and his samples are definitely quality (Superior Drummer I believe). They work in the sense that he's often doing insanely technical odd times/polyrhythms which are displaced by say, a 16th note, which is super hard for a human to play.

The programming is really good on this record honestly, but the kit just sounds superfake to me, weird EQing and toms and snare sound really thin

Beardog I agree the kit sounds kinda weird on this mix. The "playing" is good but it def sounds not as good as previous records for whatever reason.

Definitely an aoty contender. The drums are a bit too low in the mix, but they sound fine otherwise.

I think they are way too loud for how bad they sound

This prog metal/post-rock stuff with no vocals is such a chore to sit through

I want to love Cloudkicker so bad... but I just can't get into this album. I tried guys, I really did.

This was mighty good, I am glad he is back on the heavy train. Didn't think this was gonna amount to much in the beginning...

this keeps growing on me but I concede that the drums are a bit of a sore spot. Well, specifically the snare. It just sounds so thin compared to how huge everything else is

yea the snare is pretty flat, and kinda in the background
I've been spinning this loads and it is his most "grower" of an album I'd say. but damn is it satisfying when it really clicks

It's definitely a grower. A lot of the patterns he's using are pretty interesting. He's always had that Meshuggah influence which really shows on a track like "Code Language", for example.
