Hell of an underrated track. I seem to recognize how awesome it is every time I'm listening but then I can't recall it. Regardless it's probably a top 5 song here if not better.

Pan and Broom just grew on me too. While Tilt a Whirl and Hot Car are probably the most pedestrian tracks here, there's not a single bad song and most of them are in the 4-5 range of quality. Just an epic album about all things ending. How are ya'll not latching into this more in a year like 2020.

Currently listening to this while in a bus stop hiding from the rain. The arrangements on here are fantastic. Oberst’s vocals are great too

I'm wondering if the last stanza of lyrics in Comet Song discuss a miscarriage or stillbirth?

"Like a baby or apocalypse that we will never see/little infant in a plastic box/shedding incubator tears/she doesn't know yet what a comet does/you're approaching even as you disappear. The final line being especially powerful saying she (the baby) is approaching (being born) as she disappears (dies).

Pan and Broom just grew on me too. While Tilt a Whirl and Hot Car are probably the most pedestrian tracks here [2]
After really grilling Pan and Broom from the get-go, it ended up being a most listened to track for me, reallllll grower. Agree with Tilt a whirl and Hot Car being 2 of the only tracks I will skip over, they aren't bad, they just aren't in the same stratosphere as everything else on here.
@Veldin you might have something there, that last line is real powerful and could have that meaning. but as NorthernSkylark just said, I really don't want to know.

I'm still in love with this. Dance and Sing has grown on me the most of all.

I think this band picked wack singles for this. Dance and Sing is a clear single in my mind.

In the streaming era how relevant are singles though
I feel like most people just find the songs they like and play them, no one listens to traditional radio maybe I'm wrong
|
| |
Well, I'd say singles are important in streaming for the fact that those are the songs that get pushed on playlists. Usually they end up racking up the most listens too, regardless of how good they are in comparison to the rest of the album.
But I see your point. If the song doesn't make a huge dent on a playlist, it gets lost, and then people just listen to whatever.
