I don't know what kind of rock you're living under where that's "common knowledge" but I'm afraid that opinion quite frankly sucks and you're wrong

Wow, what world were you living in where everyone thinks that? Like, the mark has been missed by miles.

Brendan, for me, is more fun to listen to than either Misery Sigs vocalist. And then you're like one of the only people I've ever seen be like "Singing about depression? Fuck that." Lmao I mean, to be fair, they're melodramatic at points but a song like Witness has great lyrics.

A weird take from someone who thinks controller is the best metalcore album ever made (it’s not even the best mis sigs)

Album so far for me is a 3.5/5 but luckily for them I like them and bumped it to a 4. Old Ghosts and Cascade Locks are the standouts for sure and the rest of the album just feels like there's so much potential. Through Vales is just asking to be fleshed out more and turned into something more like Reset or Homecoming. Hoping to hear the 4 or 5 songs that they didn't release with the album, maybe I'll be even more disappointed to hear stuff that would have been better on the album.

making an alt just to disparage Counterparts on a Misery Signals page

I also do not like Counterparts, particularly their lyrics (not that writing about depression is bad ofc, but I find their lyrics pretty homogeneous and melodramatic) but I recognize that's a minority opinion on this site

The homogeneity and melodrama are valid criticisms of Counterparts' lyrics, I'd agree. Even still, they're one of my fav high school bands.

You see the thing about The Fall being the worst track is that it has 5/5 drums and is probably the most rhythmically interesting song here, idk why I let sput posts convince me it was a weak track

Their lyrics are melodramatic but I feel like criticizing lyrics about depression is always a difficult matter cause it's like, how you feel, man. Or some hippie shit like that.

Also this def grew on me a bit more, prolly only a step down from Controller imo

I don’t really like Counterparts either, think they’re pretty average melodic metalcore

“Liking Misery Signals and hating Counterparts makes NO SENSE.”

I don’t hate Counterparts but I don’t find them particularly engaging, Misery Signals has been the much more interesting band to me until now

the cp/ms comparison convo is a dead horse at this point bc it always happens and it’s Annoying itt but honestly like half of this album sounds like counterparts slowed down w some weird misery signals karaoke vocals over it

His take is pretty bad but Counterparts are overrated as FUCK on this site.

Overrated? Hmm, I personally disagree. I think they do a great job of utilizing both the older style of metalcore and the newer side. I think a big problem with this record is kinda just sounds a bit dated to me. The open note breakdown has been used for 30 years now and they still can’t put another riff behind it or maybe a melody? The heavy parts just sound kind of empty and vapid to me here and there’s not nearly enough soaring melodies compared to Controller or Malice. This kind of just sits stylistically between those two albums without showcasing anything of what made those two albums amazing and special.

damn bumping it down bc more im playing this the more im reminded of how much stronger river king is than most of whats here, which is increasingly more disappointing since thats like the reason i was so hyped for this. hope i dont have to again
