I'm not a native english speaker so i don't reallhy know if my opinion is relevant but I really find the lyrics touching here. Cascade Locks and Old Ghost (again) share a melancolic and positive vibes (interesting oxymoron)!

And I like how they filled their absent light with ultraviolet

But Controller is better.

In fact every sentence in this thread should end with "but in the end Controller is better".

And every sentence in the thread of Controller should end with "but in the end Of Malice is better."

Nonetheless this rips to me.

Some good jams in it yes

Beginning with Ultraviolet creates a bias. I totally understand the disappointment especially regarding the lenght and the straightforwardness of the first half (The Tempest is still a jam). But even that feels to me coherent with the lyrics, artwork and production.

The only album of Misery Signals that I didn't listen is Mirrors for now. The others are on repeat for a few months. And i revisite Ultraviolet more than I tought. Maybe the fact that's my only MS on vinyl affects my judgment but The tempest Old Ghost and Cascade Locks are full of golden moments.

Absent Lights grows off a bit lately...

got back into them a bit last week and my big takeaway was that ive been underrating absent light. lotta incredible songs on that and the sequencing/transitions are so smooth. especially shoutout the combos of shadows and depth + lost relics and departure + the shallows. really really big on mirrors too lead work on that is some of their best

Absent Lights is bit more inconsistent to me. The peaks (Shadows and Depth+Lost Relic, the Shallows and in a lesser degree A Glimmer oh Hope and Luminary) are stellar but Carrier and Reborn are the less appealing songs of their discog to me.

I will listen to Mirrors tho but the production tho...

i kinda dig mirrors's production its obv not the best but it never really detracts from the writing and makes some of the album's heavier moments hit ridiculously hard

carrier and reborn are the weakest on al ig but they got a lot to compete with coming off of the absolute heat that is luminary (which is my fav song on al even tho i didnt mention it before as its not really in an insane combo) and do a pretty good job continuing the momentum of the album. not sure if id take them over the worst here but the biggest problem w this is more its lack of peaks and cohesion which absent light still has in spite of those songs. threads inspired me to give this another go tho since it's been a while so we'll see how it holds up

I have to say that even if the combo A Glimmer of Hope and Luminary works very well as openers the flow of Absent Lights suffers, for me, from this two songs. The album has one of their best one-two punch : Shadows and Depth (that break at 2:40 is the best riff in AL for me) to Lost Relics is insane (A DAY OF RECKONING) but I prefer the consistency of Ultraviolet. And like I said the second half is full of little treasures (the opening riff of The Fall, the cinematic interlude, Cascade Locks and Old Ghost are peaks MS and top tiers songs to me).

I understand your point np ! Just differents takes on an extraordinary band (AL is a solid 4 to me) !

"Better than Absent Light" lol no. There are two songs on here (Cascade Locks and Some Dreams) that are better than anything on AL, but AL is much better as a whole.

I'm so much more attracted by the weird flow of Ultraviolet.

But as I said, I'm biased by the fact that I discovered this incredible band with this one (Of Malice is just perfect) !

8 years, for 35 minutes of...this? It's literally Absent Light B-sides. It's ok metalcore but man how the fuq was this all they could come up with after 8 years.
