I dig this a lot. Some of their other albums were kind of spotty for me but this is killer all the way through

This really is outstanding, definitely feels like a significant progression after Vile Luxury. As much as I enjoy that record, this one is better at choosing its moments to grab you by the throat and is more impactful because of that restraint. Plus there’s some genuinely bewildering genre-splicing moments - it has no right to work as well as it does. Incredible.

still need to listen to this. Band is fascinating although I don't now if I will enjoy it for being "not so" enjoyable

@DDD: Haha. Well I’m trying to be ‘kinder’ in a general sense, but honestly this is likely a 4.5 regardless. It’s genuinely impressive stuff.

If I didn’t like Mother of Virtues, will the new Pyrrhon change my mind?
@DDD: yeah me too if you mean recently released stuff, but that’s mostly by design - priorities etc. I’ve only heard 12 albums released in 2020.

I gotta say, this is right behind the new Ulcerate for AOTY for me. Also, I've never heard of Pyrrhon.

‘Mother of Virtues’ was a bit full-on for my tastes, it does incorporate jazz into an extreme metal template - which is where the similarities end. No idea if they’ve mixed things up significantly with their other material though.
I prefer this to Ulcerate, for whatever that’s worth.

Transmission to Mercury is... interesting to say the least. Not sure how the jazz trumpet and BM blast beats mix well. Album is throwing me for a loop.
