Damn, I'd count Mirrorball as a runner up to a pop of the year list, but Cardigan is common or garden Antonoffcore (despite lack of direct involvement)
Nocte, your list is pending approv

someone way earlier itt (i think maybe it was lucid) said that me saying the 1 was better than cardigan was wrong and that the 1 is starbucks-tier but honestly that's exactly what i hear when i listen to cardigan. that song feels primed for a posh coffee shop. absolutely one of the most vanilla songs i've heard in 2020. seven gets my rec for best song on the album, with mirrorball close behind.

Cardigan is inoffensive starbucks-tier forgettableland for sure, but the 1 straight-up blows

Honestly pretty much everything here is interchangable for me so mirrorball best song of the year? Absolutely. Cardigan really struck a chord with me and those melodies, hnnng, they're just the best she's ever penned imo. Moves me every damn time.

the melodies are so bland though. it honestly reminds me a lot of lana's nfr which is not a good thing lol.
the 1 isn't amazing lyrically but it's catchy enough

Yup, that + Melodrama, felt I'd heard those hooks over and over

Eh, I just can't hear it. Poooossssibly in the verses, but the chorus and esp the bridge are so endearing and graceful. The way those lines dance in tandem with the keys is so perfect. To each their own though.

I handed NFR a 2 when it released. Guess I'll give it another go, but I really did not like it.

Betty has been growing on me. Exile and Mad Woman are still my favorites. I really need to listen to Bob Iver at some point

I saw a comment on the board earlier how folklore doesn’t match classics like Joni Mitchell’s Blue - maybe it doesn’t, but I will still 5 an album if it is one of the best in its time period.

That an album like Blue even needed to be mentioned is pretty telling of the conversations this album has found itself in. Whether it "lives up to it" is merely a matter personal taste and perception. I love both.
