It's like someone knocking death metal vocals for being just growling nonsense. They're designed for the style. You can either accept it or not.

Imagine thinking that someone must indiscriminately ~accept~ all vocalists in a genre without question just because they are a particular style

I'm also really over the "imagine" brand of insults. Just comes across as lazy at this point.

yeah like "imagine" there's no heaven It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

imagine thinking the “imagine thinking” formula is lazier than critiquing the “imagine thinking” formula for being lazy with no explanation

Imagine a world like that
Imagine a world like that
We go like up 'til I'm 'sleep on your chest
Love how my face fits so good in your neck
Why can't you imagine a world like that?
Imagine a world

This didn't feel very cohesive to me. I felt like the guitar and vocals were were stylistically distinct and were not convincingly gelling together.

really? I felt like they mixed very well together, especially when the vocals are part of the wall of sound and not separate. What kinda vocals would you prefer on the record? I think he sung suitably on The Summoning, for example
|
| |
The vocals are too etherial in production and lackadaisical in delivery for my taste. Something drenched less in reverb and delay would be preferable. My fundamental issue is something that makes them stand out though. I'm happy for those who enjoy it. I Was hoping to enjoy it as well.

no i definitely get what you mean, some songs suffer from lazy vocals such as in Shapeshifter's last few minutes, his overenunciation and overall delivery is definitely awkward sometimes
