Just checked You'd Prefer an Astronaut today since I've been meaning to hear their older material for a while and wanted to hear that before hearing this, but gonna get on this soon.

production is great but vox and drumming seem a bit mundane.

more attention grabbing vocals and drum wankery would ruin this

I'm really not sure that a more inspired vocal performance would do anything but make this better

Can someone please help me get into this band? I'm excited about it, but when I throw it on it just sounds like power chords monotony for an hour? I know I'm missing something

i also don't listen to hum or lots of music rly ~for the vocals~ yet find them here to be extremely tasteful and perfect for the music. he has always been one of my favorite lyricists in Rock Music too, I would struggle to think of many I like more. my personal relationship w his lyricism is that I like to think of all of his space imagery as a way of expressing dissociative / distant feelings towards whatever/whoever he's writing about, n I think it is a perfect match for the type of music they have always written. i know for a fact that droves of bands in the modern day ~shoegaze~ scene owe a whole fucking lot to Hum, and I think this album has its own identity in their discography bc it puts pretty much all of those bands to shame, and hum didn't even rly sound like this album before. he comes off to me like an intelligent guy that obsesses over his delivery and lyricism, and just the songs in general.... but then again, I've loved hum for a very long time and I am extremely biased. I wanted to like this album, absolutely did not think I would love it as much as I do
