Glad some of my recs have helped you get into country, FT! This one is rather bare bones sonically but the emotion is potent. Happy to see another 4+ rating! This definitely deserves it.
Country can be stubborn certainly (@Choccy), always felt that way which is part of why I could never get into it. Not sure if the genre is transforming or if I'm the one changing, but artists like Sturgill Simpson and Honey Harper were instrumental in turning the tide in favor of the genre lately, for me personally.

Yeah tbf, I think Sturgill really opened up the genre but shame it's taken so long for more quality albums to be released. Or maybe it's the natural progression and a fuck you to the trapified bro country that makes all the waves now. Old Town Road is good tho

Not refuting the samey-ness so much as the fact that every song has amazing lyrics and emotion, so yeah we'll see. I gave this a half-assed listen my first time and thought it was just an okay country record with bad production - but then I was bored one day and accidentally heard the whole album and was blown away.
