It's an obnoxious band with obnoxious fans. I can absolutely see why anyone would take a look at the 1975 and their little posse and say "fuck that".

Yeah but Me and You Together is cute af

Yeah like I said there's definitely around 10 songs here that together make one hell of an album, and that's one of them.

I'll have to put together a shortened version for ya'll soon

22 tracks is excessive for sure. I was really hoping for a nice cohesive album for once but just having that many tracks already sets you up to fail.

Wonder what I'll think of this, really liked their last. It was another example of the world overrating something and Sput underrating it
|

I saw 22 tracks and I asked myself "is 90 minutes of the 1975 a worthwhile way to enrich my life?" I quickly realized, based on how much I dislike/feel lukewarm towards their other records, that the answer was clearly no.

"another example of the world overrating something and Sput underrating it"
a pretty good summary of this band's reception, yeah

Theres multiple tracks here that I thoroughly enjoyed

Same here tbh, just a greater majority that's forgettable

Amazing that Healy managed to sing this whole album around the foot he's continually putting in his mouth

Good review. Exactly how I felt listening to it, and exact same rating I give it. This is so all over the place
Edit: Easily their worst by a long shot. Everything here they've done before and done it better imo

I loathe Healy as a lyricist. How is the erection lyric real?
There’s like 7 songs worth holding on to from this, less than a 33% hit rate... ok.

I was gonna say Matty’s voice should be turned up in the mix, as I can’t really tell what he’s saying most of the time (kinda sighs his vocals which kills the annunciation), but then I realized I truly have no interest in hearing what he has to say ...
“imagine describing an album that uses its entire opening track to platform greta thunberg as a parade of smug self-indulgence”
- same person who tweeted that 1975 haters are misogynists.
Can’t make this shit up.

"The four song stretch from ‘Playing On My Mind’ to ‘Bagsy Not In Net’ is awash in a sea of meandering electronics that I dare you to remember"
lol the first 3 in that run are some of my favourites on this. What Should I Say is absolute money. Bagsy and the last 3 songs in general are pure filler though
if you don't love Too Shy you have no soul, it's just science

Having No Head is my favorite instrumental track of theirs, I think. The quality of the bleep bloop songs make up for Matty's shit lyrical moments a bit

yup the less I can hear Matty the better lmao
George is this band's secret weapon, fucking phenomenal producer - those keys on Having No Head sound so good

"It's an obnoxious band with obnoxious fans. I can absolutely see why anyone would take a look at the 1975 and their little posse and say "fuck that"."
anyone who judges a band by their fanbase needs to realise pretty much all fanbases suck and should grow tf up
|
| |
I happen to agree with you on that, but this is definitely the band to test that logic. Their fanbase truly is one of a kind, and entirely unavoidable.
