Btw its really fitting that Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride came back in the year of the plague with new music.

Paradise Lost releases an album ever 2 / 3 years though. Been following that pattern since Symbol of Life in 2002.

Northern Brit stroppy sods always pull off blinders. They’ve got something in their souls. Fucking love this.

It'd probably be up there for me too if it wasn't for the grandpa growls

The sound of this album feels similarily underwelming as Medusa's did but the individual tracks are slightly more memorable.
Either way, think my excitement for this band has waned a lot over the last four years.

Musically, it sounded to me as a less inspired rehash of The Plague Within, whereas I personally expected more post punk, namely tracks like "Ghosts".

I mean yeah, Medusa is pretty much a way worse version of Plague Within so that connects.

Medusa is better than Plague Within and this album. Medusa is their best in years.

Medusa is far and away the most bland and autopilot album they've done. even their "controversial" 90s albums were at least something different

It's probably the safest and most stripped-down album they have done so far. I like it even though it's not in the same league as any other goth doom release they have done until now.

Their worst album is Believe in Nothing and that's just fact, that album is dull. Medusa is top 5 for the band. It's tight, focused, and completely committed to making a doom death album. Maybe doom death just isn't your style, but Medusa isn't bland and it absolutely isn't autopilot. It's their least safe album of the past two decades.

People definitely underrate Medusa with the simplified claims tbh. A good chunk of it is a proper return to the early days' sound but with professional musicianship, plus there's Fearless Sky. The two catchy clean vocals singles are a bit weak but the rest rules, especially the fully death songs (which ironically are the ones that I underrated myself for a long while)
