Review Summary: A wound that does not heal.

At the end of their "experimental phase" Napalm Death presents us with Words From The Exit Wound. WFTEW marks a shift towards a more death metal oriented sound while keeping some of the experimental elements from every record post Utopia Banished. If there is one word I can use to summarize this record it is tired. To summarize briefly, this record is what a band makes when they are tired and seemingly run out of ideas in order to appease fans.

I went into this record with an open mind enjoying previous efforts like Diatribes which was a more groove/death metal influenced album. WFTEW is so forgettable in every aspect. The songwriting is just contrived from elements they've put in previously and the inclusion of clean vocals is absolutely absurd. Whosever idea it was to include that should have kept their mouth shut. If there is a positive to take from this record it is the track 'Thrown Down A Rope.' This song showcases that Napalm Death at this point could still write a cohesive and hard groovy death metal song with an interesting play off between riffs at 1:15 mark.

I don't think this is the worst record I've ever listened to. There's far worse grind and death metal records out there. I think the record is well produced and there are songs I enjoy, but, the lack of variation in the song writing and the melodic elements feel so out of place. This is a Lowpoint(lol) for the band, even if you enjoy Inside The Torn Apart as I did this record will most likely do nothing for you and you will forget it even existed.

Listen to: Thrown Down A Rope....that's about it.

About time someone reviewed this. Review is a bit short, but this album sucks so it doesn't matter. Nice work!

I gotta be honest I didn't really have much to say and didn't want to shit on it too much. They returned from this sour note real fast.

That is definitely true. They have been pretty consistent since this release.

Oh yeah they bounced back super hard, they're one of the most consistent DM/Grind/Crust bands around

This album gets smacked around by ND fans, I actually consider it underrated and a better experimental album than Inside the Torn Apart.

both of those records are whatever, not much of a defense when they've made much better

Not saying its better than their usual stuff, but I find decent groove/death metal and better than what most people give it credit for.

I really enjoyed Inside The Torn Apart to be fair. I even like Diatribes too.

How i rank the albums with the alternative logo which mark a change on their style from the 90s:
