What's missing from this is diversity. I couldn't pick out a 30 second sample from most of these and identify the song. They never really attempt to change the atmosphere. With that said, I could also pick any 2-3 songs from here and enjoy the hell out of them because they're all pretty good - but 10 in a row it loses its luster.

Seems like their last album was a fluke 'return to form' record.
This is consistently just OK, honestly would rank it in the lower half of their discog with albums like Vengeance Falls and Ember to Inferno.

Yeah Sowing I agree, it happens to me too, there are a few songs that I enjoy alot tbh but then the rest of the album falls flat.

I think this is still marginally better than Vengeance Falls. At least this time the Disturbed-isms are kept to a minimum

Before I got into Trivium (which is to say the last month), In Waves still got my attention and the live performance official video was beut.

I do not understand the hate for Vengeance Falls. Disturbed can't even come close to making a record as good as that, and Matt's lyrical themes on that record are probably my favorite of any Trivium album.

It's just boring instrumentation for the most part. They tried to make groovy songs, I guess, but it didn't pay off imo. Most of it just feels like a watered down version of In Waves with hooks that are worse.
Also the production is just too loud, it's very tiring. An issue I had with In Waves as well, but to a lesser extend.

Ok I am with you on the production, but Trivium's production has always been pretty compressed to be fair. Loudness war ruins every modern band's production other than Avenged Sevenfold (because they're not playing to those rules) it seems.
Also I just took a look at The Sin and the Sentence's title track and WHEW LADDY http://prntscr.com/s9s1t1

It's okay to be loud, but when it becomes tiring something went wrong. Never had an issue with The Sin And The Sentence in this regard

most modern metal bands slam their loudness, it's not uncommon at all

@kalk: i have a method i use to de-fuck most productions. Even Snide has told me it was stupid to care so much about DR but you know what, fuck what he thinks. I need my dynamics even in my gayass whiny scenecore

VF is significantly worse than at least 2 Disturbed albums

@Symbolic: Which ones? I'm gonna be 100% honest, my favorite Disturbed album I still have a full star below Vengeance Falls.

Keep in mind I find VF to be near-bottom of the barrel
Ten Thousand Fists and Believe mostly

I don't really understand why you do, but i have a different way of approaching albums like that so maybe i'm just struggling with approaching it from another perspective?
As for the two albums... fair enough with Ten Thousand Fists but Believe kinda sucks outside like three songs

Silence in the Snow is pretty dynamic by modern metal standards (http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/96630) and there is a quieter version for Vengeance Falls as well (http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/57621). Too bad they didn't do this stuff for their better albums.

SITS has some ugly drums though, even though the dynamic range might be greater they didn't really make use of it
