First two Alkaloid albums are superb in my book and have one of the most compelling LP songwriting in Prog Death, specially the first one.

Frost, what do you mean by "LP songwriting"?

I mean how songs flow and fit inside an album. I love when there is a sense of whole because I'm an album guy (vs a song guy). Alkaloid are superb in that aspect, they even have some leitmotivs that repeat on different songs, not to mention one of the best long metal songs of all time (Rise of the Cephalopods). That track alone is a masterclass on songwriting.

Frost's passion for Alkaloid is practically convincing me to check em out again. I thought their discog has been just ok so far.

okay, that's kinda what i was thinking, but thanks for explaining. you really feel like Ulcerate is lacking when it comes to LP songwriting? That's wild to me. All their albums have a superb sense of whole to me. Especially EiF and Shrines.

Imo ulcerate can nail it or make a generic ulcerate song, both rule but when they really get dense and atmospheric imo they’re at their best
