I'm not really a fan of Amenra at all but I know a lot of people love them.

Personally my top three albums from Cult of Luna are this one, Salvation and Vertikal but I'm sure you'd get a different answer from most fans since all their albums are quality.

They all rule hard. This, Salvation and The Beyond are top tier COL for me though.

Agree with Hawks, but then Eternal Kingdom is closer to that group (& better than Vertikal).

I mean its beautiful and incredibly detailed. The electronics, the vocals, the distortion, the songwriting, the heaviness and overall production. Whats not to love? I just want to dig their all discog now.

that way you can see how they progress their songwriting as well and how they go between different approaches to their albums.

"calling this glorified background music is a bit of a lazy analysis imo. sure, they're aiming for repetition at times to get you into the feel of the passage slowly building up the song as a whole. this isn't exactly unique for this genre of music, take techno or ambient as examples. would you call those genres glorified background music? I guess one would if one didn't know what to listen for, but the devil is in the details and I think that applies for Cult of Luna as well."

u right, u right. Techno and pure ambient music aren't genres that I've ever delved into, but I listened to some more of this band while Sput was down, and I did it without any distractions. I kept the music in the forefront of my mind, and I was able to appreciate the epic layering buildups and conclusions that they do in their music a lot more.

DDDef : Other bands that sound pretty much like this? Callisto, Yarn Of Norna, Crib45, 417.3, Dirge, When Icarus Falls

That’s just for starters and that’s why I am the fucking best. Maybe Wolfe can chime in with some others too. I will wait.

^ MOTA are not one of the big four (subjective)...top 10? Yes.

Fun fact: Did you know MOTA is the only band to have TWO AOTY's in my entire discography (1800 albums)?
