Hmm, I don't want to believe this so I won't (yet)
It's been a hot minute since I heard it tbh. Perhaps time to revisit / see how far nostalgia can compensate for any flaws

This and dawn (was the main entry for me with these guys) to be the top two for me

Eternal is underrated in their discog imo

I don't tend to include Mariner but if forced to it would be placed above the S/T / Raging River and just below The Long Road North, at the back end of their discog

perhaps, I enjoyed Long Road a lot when it came out so the peak was higher
struggled to sustain its early momentum relative to past glories tho

I think the initial excitement of "wow, a new CoL album!!!" dissolved into "this sure sounds like a CoL album" - where I could attain more satisfying variants of their sound from past material
Having said that I'm a sucker for these guys, so I certainly think it's a worthy addition. There are just levels here.

Seems to be a dissenting opinion but I find Mariner to be one of their most compelling releases overall. This is my favorite but Mariner is not far behind by any means

Again though, I love bands with such rich and interesting discogs that everyones favorites/rankings are all over the place and bring in discussion which I love.

I know you were, I was just giving my thoughts and notice a lot of people rank Mariner low as a whole which is surprising tbh.

And a lot of people rate it very highly as well. This (relative?) divisiveness is to be expected given the nature of the album, with it being a collab and all
If anything it's wholly unsurprising

idk all the people separating Mariner cuz it’s a collab have it all in their mind, it’s not like an entire band also had their sound imprinted. That’s all Cult of Luna on it.
