Dance of the Clairvoyants was the freshest they sounded in over a decade and saw them trying out new sounds that worked well on them. So of course nothing else on the album is like it. Ugh.

Yeah Clairvoyants is a jam.

A bit of a let-down after Dance of the Clairvoyants. That was such a strong single; when I first heard it, it felt like Pearl Jam aping Muse or something, which I hated, but on repeat listens it reminds me more and more of the best Talking Heads songs. It's not that what is actually on the album is bad, it just feels very safe compared to the experimentation I was expecting. Still probably right about in the middle, if not in the upper half, in terms of their discography ranking.

I was expecting the whole album to sound a bit sludgier based on that album cover. "Quick Escape" is a proper ditty, though, leading into two other gnarly dudes. Not sure I like the rest of the album.

I got the Fallout 3 goty edition, but that didn't include the Gigaton add-on, i suppose.

Good god this band is so boring now. This album is the most by the numbers trash i’ve heard in ages.

There seems to be some positive buzz around this one, so I almost want to give it a shot. Is it actually decent or is it the same old bullshit they've been doing for 20 years?

It’s actually decent.

It reminds me of the newest Fleetwood Mac album in a bad way, feels like a lot of filler. A couple good songs. Weird comparison and I only skipped through it so far. I've never really been a huge Pearl Jam fan though, but I like a few of their songs quite a bit.

This is solid enough and I enjoyed it, which is all I ask for from a Pearl Jam album in 2020.

still think Riot Act might be their worst - can't stand that album

This is definitely better than I thought it was going to be

I remember the Christmas after Riot Act came out, I'd just bought it before I think, was staying at my folks for the hols and I was playing it a lot, trying to give it a fair go, and my mum came in and said 'can you play something else, this is really boring for Pearl Jam' or something like that.
Classic lol, she wasn't wrong

My folks loved 'Yield' which is prob the most 'parents rock' album in their ouvre, bit of Led Zeppelin on that one
|
| |
Yield is a good ‘un. Brain of J and Given to Fly are up there with the best Pearl Jam tunes.

It’s alright, but possibly their 2nd worst. Some good songs, like Can’t Keep, I Am Mine and a few others. Lightning Bolt is definitely their worst though imo.
