"My girlfriend hated this but I kept playing it for months and now she tolerates it"
This sounds like any music I ever play for my wife
"Man the avg on this is low"

I cant recall much 2020 pop punk bc most I heard was not good but that new Spanish Love Songs is sitting at a 3.8 and I'd take this 1000x over that
But I guess it's mostly weird to me bc I easily put this next to stuff like TWY quality-wise and their ratings are pretty high

I'm a 2000s pop-punker way more than a 2010s pop-punker, so TWY'inspired brand of genre appeals to me far less including Spanish Love Songs (album was great, but I can only take so much complaining about not having money and sleeping in your parent's basement et al). I did love Sister Cities, so I at least need to check the rest of TWY discog. Is Hot Mulligan in line with all this modern pop-punk (if so, I'm less interested) or more like early era pop-punk (the kind of whiny, romantically-inclined stuff Yellowcard was made of)?

Definitely more in line with modern emo leaning pop punk. I see this record called a more pop punk Tiny Moving Parts pretty often. Plus, the vocals can easily be a point of contention, as a large chunk are these emotive yells.
Id say give the opener, OG Bule Sky, a shot if you want. If that does nothing for you, I wouldn't bother with the rest

agreed that *Equip Sunglasses* is such a blast and has such a hilarious music video. One of my most-played tracks this year without a doubt

This was great. It wouldn't have topped my year or anything, but it's some of the best pop punk I've heard in a while.
