Great review. Your thoughts are close enough to mine that I don't feel the need to write a review for this.
I like this album for the most part. It's just painfully obvious the band doesn't quite know which direction to go: Spastic hardcore or WWE theme song alternative rock. They TRY to mix the two directions, but it's still not implemented smoothly - which might be due to the crazy electronics and sound effects which are intentional. Overall, this is just a hard album to fall in love with.

Grew on me a little. Theres some good riffage here "in fear" and "swallowing the rabbit whole" absolutely slam but fuck this album is all over the place, really strugged to sit through it.

The fact they named the song Swallowing the Rabbit Whole and Down the Rabbit Whole is heinous

Easily my favorite record of theirs since Love is Love.
You and You Alone, Cold Metal Place, Erasure Scan, Back Inside the Glass, Fear, Rabbit...all some of the best stuff they've ever created.

I wanted to like this but ended up only liking the first track. Yeah the 1 minute intro.

This is a band I don't understand the hate for. Sounds like decent metalcore to me idk. Good riffs, I like the weird industrial stuff they've got going on too.
But also I am way checked out of this genre, generally speaking

I mean it's not bad. Definitely has a bit more going on than a generic metalcore band but it still doesnt stand out in a meaningful way.

I recently spoke to a guy who apparently had the most viscerally negative reaction to hearing these guys that I've ever heard of. There seem to be a lot of people who just despise this band, and I don't really get why.

Loathe is doing everything these guys want to do 10x better.

Loathe is meh for me. Not a fan of the production or the giant Deftones worship. sounds pretty much like a lot of metalcore bands to me. Code sounds like their own thing and always really has.

I understand not liking the production or Deftones worship but I can’t really wrap my head around Loathe sounding like a lot of metalcore bands. Code Orange, Vein and Jesus Piece are the closest sounding to me (off the top of my head) but even then I think they’ve carved a pretty distinct sound

they sound nothing alike tho

In Fear literally just sounds like parts of the track are missing. Not even sure what they were going for. wtf

This is all over the place in a not so great way. A significant portion of these songs wouldn’t sound out of place on a nu metal album.

I participated in the promo ARG website for this album seeing as I was already a pretty big fan, and jesus christ dude, it was seriously incredible. The amount of detail that went into it was really impressive, there was a whole discord server with the band that the site has a link to, and for those who solved different puzzles pertaining to the ARG were sent different prizes, there was even a listening party for the album for a limited audience, myself included, with a Q&A session. That is how you promote, despite how good the music is. Which, in my opinion, is extremely good. I consider Forever is to Broken as Underneath is to The Downward Spiral. I'm not much for reviews, but I can safely say that everything about this album is a huge step up in quality.
