I was obsessed with those first two Korn releases when I was a mere preteen in the mid-ish 90's. Still love those albums to this day.

Yeah, me too. Issues is also still a great album and the second to last record KoRn released was actually really good.

Dude my friend got the first Korn album from the states before anyone had heard it in the UK, Its hard to explain how new and fresh it was, I was also obsessed with Korn for the first 2 records. Hung with them a few times in the UK was fun times before they became billy big bollocks.
Never really listened to lots of nu metal but rode the wave for a few years unfortunately I guess and Sepultura/Machine head even Slayer were getting influenced by it but I jump into the HxC scene thankfuly as it became much much worse even (somehow). Now in hindsight Nu metal was a monstrosity I Might put the odd track off the first record once a fucking year maybe. So yeah I was there too and regardless THIS still sucks.

We agree, yet again. I'll go as far to say that the S/T Korn album is better than ANY Nu-Metal to ever come out. I'll also go to my grave saying that Korn isn't Nu-Metal, but is Groove Metal.

KoRn's S/T is easily the best nu-metal record ever.
But I usually consider SOAD in a league of their own, so if you put them into the mix, KoRn would still probably be number one but the first two SOAD records would likely stack at 2 and 3.

I was never able to get into Nu metal fully because i had 3 older brothers who were old school heavy metal listeners and listened to stuff like Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Motorhead and Metallica and such. So for me at the time, though I was only like 10 or so, nu metal was not as good melodically and compositionally as those bands my brothers were listening to. I think I was lucky.
With that said though SOAD and Deftones were always my fav Nu Metal bands at that time. The best nu-metal record imo is Deftones Around The Fur.
Moreno was a way way way better and more interesting vocalist than the other bands at the time and I think that's why they never fully fit. He crooned a lot, which was not that common in nu metal.

I wasn't talking about bizkit or korn, but even those bands had some jams.

The first album of there's where I can actually start to hear why people like them. It still doesn't justify the hype though, not by a long shot.
