"but they lack a subtlety" hey Pika friend! I agree with this! This album is very good though and its like a starting mash up, that match my tastes on too many parts for me to ignore, and it slowly builds into one own identity as the album goes on. I find the lack of subtlety you've mentioned makes the album very immediate, but, in my experience, it holds to many listens.
Art, I could live without the opener, although they seem genuinely having fun on that track and its very cool soundwise, in terms of songwriting is simple built in 4x4, I don't feel it much...I'm glad the band isn't only instrumental and the vocals add so much dynamic that even bands like CoL and Ocean don't have in that department (Not comparing the bands in terms of class, or the aforementioned subtlety though)...even the screams are way cooler imho...
