the whole thing really is great, i don't think there's a weak song to be found. definitely an AOTY contender

My AOTY contenders are literally 50% country: Honey Harper (Chan, I can't believe you haven't rated/heard that yet - best country/folk album of 2020), this album, Jess Williamson, and Waxahatchee (another heartily endorsed rec for you Chan, but be forewarned, it takes some time for the melodies to get their hooks in ya).
The non-country: Mac Miller, Fiona Apple, Andrew Judah, and NIN (V: Together)

i haven't gotten to honey harper yet but will soon. i've heard most of the songs on waxahatchee's new one because my partner is obsessed with it. i'd really fallen off her bandwagon over the past few releases but the new songs sound pretty good to me. gotta dive in at some point.

Okay I'll stop hyping up both then so I don't oversell them, but I do predict that at least one of them will join your AOTY contender list (ok, forget what I just said about ceasing the hype lol).

it's very consistent; I can't think of a bad song offhand
her voice is smooth, gorgeous, and powerful - she could make anything sound amazing

Her voice is like a synthesis of Patty Griffin, Brandi Carlile, and Julien Baker. She's really gifted.

Yes yes yes Chan, to everything you said. This subverts so many expectations in beautiful ways. It's simple, but that helps the voice and lyrics soar and makes me appreciate those moments instrumentally even more

this is one of the first albums of the year I really enjoyed but y'all are making me think I underrated it lol

I shazamed one of her songs and now am reminded I need to hear the whole record.

THIS IS THE PHOEBE BRIDGERS I WANTED

This is pretty good stuff. Very soft rock.
|
| |
don't like the vocal acrobatics and showboating on this one
the piano ballads also didn't grab me. "georgia" is even more tedious than bridgers' song by that name

Heard this earlier last week and yeah it's alright. Might return to it but I don't recall any highlights, will prob end up tapping out on a 2nd listen

@SowingSeason
Holy shit, are you me? Jess Williamson, Honey Harper and Katie Pruitt are my jam this year. I've been listening to all their albums on repeat. This album is honestly incredible and just doesn't seem to get old, even with multiple listens.
