This seems as good a time as any to revive a blanket ban on any coltonposting in any of my review threads

hmm, the question is are you prepared to review every good album ever?

My resolve is iron
but, uh, think we know that would have a disproportionately tiny impact compared to reviewing every bad n bland album ever

The production on this really is a joy to behold, perfectly balanced

Do you know which master you're on (don't have a firm preference either way, but there's a pronounced difference between the og and 2016)

2016. That’s interesting to know then

What is it about the vocals being "child-like" that bugs you? Doesn't seem like something that would be an inherent negative

In certain contexts hell yeah it is but these vox hit more like Vashti Bunyan than whatever creepy anime series

recently discovered Vashti and yeah, I agree
Depends innit. Also accents / language lend themselves or are commonplace to / with certain vocal deliveries and that seems unfair tbh, but honestly this is a debate I don’t wish to have

How utterly unlike him
But yeah Japanese is full of linguistic qualities that would be considered childish if you were stupid enough to transfer their cultural context directly to English (the way the pitch accent operates in feminine and ig some polite masculine registers, heavy use of onomatopoeia, frequent doubled sounds ("yoyo" -type beat), the sheer fact of single cons. + single vowel combinations for the near-entirety of the alphabet (which in English = baby's first speech, "da", "ma" etc.))
This album has some particularly interesting bits phonetically (the Best Bit in Sakana is basically a straight run of nonsense-words with similar sound associations, and Tsuiraku's first verses hammer in individual cons+vowel patterns like a dissociated mantra to match the vertigo of the lyrics/arrangement) and you'd have to stretch to find an Anglophone counterpart who could easily produce the same effect with a similar set of sounds

So many lovely intricate details here. The replay value is certainly strong. Very chill yet notably devoid of the empty space dreamy glitch-type stuff can easily produce
