New EP was definitely just serviceable. It's enjoyable, but nothing amazing and not as good as this obviously.

Really like the new EP, though it feels like it could have used a Heat Lightning or Doe Eyed Girl barn burner in there somewhere to spice it up.

This album is basically what you'd get if Nick Cave still made good music.

Shit, this does actually rule. Goes well as an accompanying piece to my ongoing (slow but steady) Cave discog binge, but also does its own thing.

Cheers rogue Gyro 5 / Johnny’s silly vs Mort. thing. I’d never heard of this previously.

iirc this was a gyro 4.5-to-bump and not a 5.0, but while we're on the topic of dumb ratings

Damn, this is consistently great, so many bops throughout and the closer is the perfect ‘big finish’.

Shadow is half baked compared to this. Couple of bangers but nearly the same standard of songwriting

'iirc this was a gyro 4.5-to-bump and not a 5.0'

ah yes, that was definitely the moment I noticed this existing and ultimately the main catalyst (coupled with... 'is this Nick Cave-core'?) for checking... but either way, I stand corrected

'but while we're on the topic of dumb ratings'

'2.0 poor Assemblage | October 23rd 21

this was goddamn fucking awful and waiting for this album to end was basically a slow torture. Honestly surprised by a good portion of the user's votes here and feels suspiciously like bandwagoning. 'Stay Cruel' was about the only thing that didn't make me want to claw my eyes out and stick them in my ears instead.'

Serafina / Death Croons / Stay Cruel is a truly great run.

This is easily my fave modern post-punk album since the last modern post-punk album I cannot recall right now... because idk, are there any? Curious.

Veronica Lipgloss is almost as good as this and her one record dropped around the same window as Abattoir Blues, which is maybe modern

and ig whichever token Protomartyr album if you need some gap fillers

Assemblage is the "I honestly did get my mum into Ulcerate guyz just keep an open mind" user from the FI thread so yes lol historically awful pie meme user

2005 is literally half my life ago and (presumably) more than half of yours, for some perspective... but in the grand scheme of post-punk then yes I guess it counts (argh!)

It looks interesting either way.
