You know what fuck it I'm also 5ing this. I think people should give out 5s more often. Life's short, and with so much music made every day there's bound to be a at least couple 5s in a year.

This might be my favorite Tame Impala, at the very least it's tied with Currents. While it lacks the impact of Currents, it's definitely more consistent. I think a lot of the backlash this album, and even Currents, gets is from people who were introduced to the more guitar driven work of Lonerism and Innerspeaker. There's definitely a divide between fans based on whether you think Kevin is better at writing rock or funk.

This and Lonerism for me. Their debut was good but (IMO) not as memorable, and Currents was just a less catchy version of this which I know is a minority take.

Innerspeaker and lonerism were really good. I don't remember if I ever listened to currents but this is like the new architects single of tame impala albums.

currents is good, has some of his best songs but also has a fair bit of filler

I think Lonerism has the best peaks of any album of theirs, but this is the most consistent. I think it's consistently great, I guess others find it consistently boring

Innerspeaker was a solid, genuine neo-psych love-letter

This shit is commercial as fuck

It doesn't bother you at all?

I can't stand overtly panderous music, it just feels so fake/inauthentic. I hate when artists sound like their music is a career rather than a passion

There's genre-bending going on throughout and nearly half the songs are 5-7 minutes long, so not exactly what I'd call commercial.

Alter Ego is still probably my fav Tame Impala track. The first second of that song is 👌🏼

Oh wow now that I've noticed the slightly above average track lengths this no longer sounds super commercial to me
