First Envy album. I really tried, but this guy's vocals ruined it for me. The music is sweeping and beautiful, but then his screams are almost comical sounding - like he's trying way too hard to sound savage. Of course, it might help if I knew the language, so I admit that my judgment of this is flawed in the first place. I actually didn't know it'd be in another language when I went to listen to this, so maybe I need to regroup and approach it differently. I'm just not sure I care enough to. 'Swaying Leaves and Scattering Breath' is amazing, anyway.

I'm with you on that Sowing. My sentiments exactly.

I might remove my rating honestly, don't feel qualified to judge this considering the language barrier. Judging strictly from the music and the effect of the vocals, it's instrumentally beautiful but vocally hideous. Might have been a great instrumental post-rock record.

I said the same thing about wishing it was instrumental. I don't think it's a language barrier thing though, as there are plenty of records in foreign languages that I do dig, and others in English that I can't understand and don't bother to look up the lyrics to, and that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the vocals altogether, which is the case here unfortunately.

his vox aren't good but they don't detract enough to harm the album imo.

The vocals are fine but the music is definitely the strong point here.

I love dudes vocals, they convey emotion extremely well.

The lyrics definitely help to paint the full picture. And about the vocals, I actually don't like screamo but Envy is one of those bands in which this style of vocals don't bother me as much, and they are actually quite fitting. Not to mention the amazing job they did with the melodic voices and the feature.

as far as skramz vox go, these are some of the nicer ones imo

agreed. i love tetsu's vocal style--it's quite affecting and thoroughly his own--but because he's been doin this exact style for like 20 years and the vocals are also monotonous in pitch, they're just "fine" at this point. so the quality of a new envy album will depend on how good the instrumentals are.

I still really love his vocals tbh, even after listening to this band for like 8 years

See, I really like screamo though, so it's not even a gripe with the genre itself, but just in this particular case. And while I wouldn't call his vocals bad, they do bother me. A lot.
