I'm super nervous Deftones have already been one-upped by Loathe this year, especially after Gore, which was a disappointment. Perhaps I shouldn't underestimate my favorite band, especially with Stef getting more space in the writing of the new album and the rumored recording with Terry Date, but their output is getting slower and their passion seems like its winding down understandably, but still.

Two Way Mirror is prolly my favorite song here and it literally is just 100% ace Deftones worship lmao.
Idk the songs here are all individually really dope but I wish there was more rhyme/reason to the flow of this album. It's definitely a lightning in a bottle mess in the best and worst ways.

Will probably be one of the best albums of the year

I'm loving this album. The Deftones worship is clear, but I also hear Slipknot creeping in. I'm not usually a Slipknot fan, but it works when put through a metalcore-lense

yeahhhh idk if I can say in good faith that anything here resembles slipknot.
also Vein is WAY more chuggy and one-dimensional than this, don't get me wrong I love Errorzone but idk how you make the argument that it's better than this

idk about one-dimensional. they are less experimental compared to this band, but I just think their songwriting is better when it comes to the metalcore stuff. that being said, as much of a mixed bag this album is I haven't been able to stop listening to it lol. the good songs are really good.

Two Way Mirror is song of the year so far. Sounds like it should be on Koi No Yokan, which is an absolute hard 5.

Aside from Broken Vision Rhythem, Red Room, Gored, and Heavy is the Head, all of which are terrible, the rest of this is pretty strong. Two Way Mirror, Sad Cartoon, Is It Really You, and Agressive Evolution are all stellar.

got it, so anything heavy is automatically terrible. sweet

Album Rating: 3.5
No, anything heavy that doesnt have a strong groove or a hook is terrible. Agressive Evolution is heavy but has a mega awesome chorus and a great groove. Heavy just to be heavy is shit.

This band is fucking nuts. Can't wait to see them blow up in the states.

Screaming is awesome.
My top 5 are A Sad Cartoon (the fucking best), Is It Really You, Aggressive Evolution, Screaming, & the title track.

Can't stand Aggressive Evolution but otherwise gud picks. Glad there seems to be a soft consensus around A Sad Cartoon, the degree to which they got it right there made this whole thing worthwhile

A Sad Cartoon is great, that's probably my favorite of the more shoegazey tracks

"No, anything heavy that doesnt have a strong groove or a hook is terrible."
I just feel like saying it's "terrible" because it has no hook is kinda dramatic. Great songs don't always have to have some catchy hook or chorus.

^ I'm getting old man, I don't have time for stuff that doesn't jam hard in an infectious way.
