For the sake of saving money and go their own way, some bands prefer to deal with little labels or litterally choose to be independant (hence the indie music I guess). For some obscure reasons, most of these formations are sounding alike, and they're mostly reduced in term of instrumentation (guitar, drums, bass and sometimes keyboards and that's it).

And yes I forgot about Jean Leloup (I don't know about your next 2, except Godspeed of course). There is also Arcade Fire, and another from the 70's, April Wine.

I never got around a full album of theirs, but I know and appreciate couple of scattered tracks here and there, like ''Storm'' for instance..

You should check New Riot, f#a# and LySFlAtH, listening to their whole albums is an excellent experience

My dad says he can't enjoy this band cause of the vocals (specially Hodgson's)

But they're freaking awesome wtf

Hodgson has a high capacity vocal range. In rare occasions he almost gets on my nerves though, in songs like ''Give a Little Bit'' or ''Babaji'', but in any case, songs are great enough, it compensates.
