Most of the post 2014+ tunes sound a lot better placed in an album context, though opening the comp with Stateforest was kinda bad

I've really come around to State Forest

It's not a bad track I just think it's one of the weaker tracks here.

But the sequencing of this thing and the way the whole thing flows is amazing and putting it anywhere else might've messed that up so w/e. Still an amazing release... Especially once it gets to the Kindred tracks. Feels almost like a religious experience

Its a long ass compilation so the trio of State Forest, Beachfires, and Subtemple work in a similar way to the ambient and experimental stuff on Tomorrow, In A Year. They hypnotize you while slowly building tension, making those songs themselves seem stronger in hindsight, and all that succeed it more palatable and enveloping. It's disarming, but successful way to start a long, dynamic album I guess.

Great comparison, I really dig the ambient trio as a 'first rumblings of the earth' deal. They make Young Death a lot more impactful too.
